(Guest blogger today is William.) We’re trying lots of new things here in New Zealand and I have a favourite new drink. It’s called L&P (which stands for Lemon and Paeroa). The drink tastes like Sprite with a little “something” added. You usually find it in brown glass bottles as opposed to the usual plastic.
We learned something new from Wikipedia while researching this. I always thought “paeroa” was a flavor, but it turns out that Paeroa is a small town in New Zealand. It is located in the northern Waikato region. The population is 3900. Paeroa is well known for its mineral springs, which provided the water used in a local soft drink which has become a New Zealand favourite, Lemon & Paeroa.
The website Kiwiana says that bottling of the drink began in Paeroa in 1907, by Menzies and Co, the original bottler and the drink’s popularity spread across the country. These days the mineral water from Paeroa is no longer used, but all the same mineral components are added to retain the original taste and properties.

Lemon & Paeroa (or L&P) has a playful slogan "World Famous in New Zealand" and perhaps the largest soft drink statue in the world is in the town of Paeroa. (Unfortunately, L&P is now owned by Coca Cola!)
