Margaret came home on Friday with an award she had won at school. The certificate reads “for always being such a diligent and conscientious worker. Well done!” She received the award from her teacher, Mr. Bruce, at the Team Assembly for all Grade 4s and 5s. We’re proud that she’s still keeping up her fabulous work even though there are so many different things going on at school. Notice the bare feet...The schools are not as rigorous as those in California, but I’m pleased with the variety of topics that are covered. It’s also fun to hear about the different games that are played – similar to those in Redlands, but with little twists that make going to a school in a different country so worthwhile. At dinner tonight we were talking about how coming here is a lot like taking a semester in Europe to broaden your horizons. Ben is exploring some different art and electronic classes, William is learning French and New Zealand sign language (in addition to self taught ASL), and Margaret is learning Maori (the language of the native NZers). Fortunately, all of the kids have received excellent foundations in all subjects through RUSD, and are at the top academically of all their classes. I’m enjoying seeing them learn things just for the fun of learning them.

I want to be a teacher in NZ!!! Sounds like fun!!! Question: Does Margaret wear shoes to school???? :D
Academic curriculum is not always the most important learning in one's life. You all are receiving a very wealthy content that could not be attained anywhere else.
