Ropes 'n tires

We took Grandma Rosemary to one of our favourite parks tonight. Centaurus Park is adjacent to St. Martins Primary School. St. Martins, in this case, refers to the area the school is located in and does not mean that it’s affiliated with a church.

We were originally drawn to this park because it had a big open area in which to play cricket. Further exploration led us to the part that is most striking. It has a huge play area made up of truck tires, wooden poles, and ropes.

Some of the tires are half buried in the surface, some are stacked up around the poles, and some are suspended from ropes. Most of the children we’ve seen playing on the structure tend to play some sort of tag. Numerous rules are shouted back and forth as kids try to maneuver through the tires, ropes, and poles without touching the ground. Twin rope walls provide a different challenge.
Ben, William, and Margaret like to see who can climb the highest, or go around the farthest without touching the ground. William is the best rope climber, Ben is best at making flying leaps from tire to tire, and Margaret is best at fitting into small, suspended tires during the games of hide and seek. Even Mark likes to get into the act by finding the best place to take a rest.

I usually stand by with my cell phone in case someone needs to have emergency services called (dial 111). Haven’t had to do it yet….
