Yesterday Mark took his former U of R graduate student, Meghan, to the airport where she was catching a flight to California for a wedding. After the wedding she will be continuing on to France where, as part of her Ph.D. project, she will be doing a field study for about 3 months. Her husband, Justin, will be returning to NZ after the wedding to begin a teaching job on the north coast of the South Island, very near Abel Tasman National Park.
This past weekend we met them for brunch after church, and then got to see the house that they are now renting. Initially they lived just one hill over from us, close to Ben’s school, but they’ve moved to a larger place with a fabulous view of the seaside communities of Sumner and New Brighton, as well as the vast Pacific Ocean.
We’ll sorely miss Meghan and Justin. They picked up us at the airport when we arrived in town 6 months ago, helped check out possible rental houses for us, and provided us with the first food for our fridge. They also provided invaluable assistance on any number of issues we threw at them. We hope to meet up with them again in the future and wish them well in all they endeavour to do.
