Big week for violin

William started this week with a "road show" for the combined Beckenham, Opawa, and Queenspark School orchestras. The children in the orchestra travelled to and performed at each of the schools. It was quite a production with around 100 kids playing everything from recorder to electric guitar to violin, but it all came together nicely for the performance. The instructors always comment how important it is for young musicians to play in a large group. The larger setting allows them to hear more depth and complexity in the music than when they play by themselves.

This Wednesday was also the last day of music tuition (lessons) for William. He has worked very hard with his tutor, Susan Farmer, learning skills in music reading and instrument playing that I’m sure he would not have received in a large-group-only setting. Susan was fabulous and we’re really going to miss her. She had high demands for William, but also had a great sense of humour and helped make learning enjoyable and desirable. Unfortunately, the photo we took of William and Susan got deleted, but I’m hopeful that we’ll get a new one that I’ll post with some info on the Music Centre of Christchurch in the next couple of weeks.
